Jordan Jonas: Alone and Resilient

Jordan Jonas was a contestant on season six of the television show Alone. Alone is a competition series in which ten contestants set off to an exotic, remote location with ten items of their choice and attempt to survive off the land for as long as they can. Each contestant is trained to operate a set of filming equipment, meaning that there is not even a camera crew with them. They are truly all alone. Whomever stays out the longest is the winner and receives half a million dollars, but none of the contestants know when another leaves. Jordan is a survival expert that has spent extended periods of time living with tribes in Siberia before his time on Alone. On his season, Jordan and his fellow contestants were in the show’s coldest environment yet, attempting to survive in the arctic among bears, moose, wolverines, and more. If you are interested in watching this show, Jordan’s season is on Netflix, and the other seasons are on Hulu.

While watching Jordan on season six, one thing in particular that he said definitely resonated with me. “You can be really intelligent, but that doesn’t mean a lot unless you have the character to go along with it.” Jordan was one of the smartest, most resilient contestants on the show by far. The fact that he realizes how important character is, however, was truly impressive. You could be the most brilliant person on the planet, but if you cannot communicate your discoveries well with other people, you will not be able to thrive off your ideas. Building lasting relationships with others, having a positive attitude, and being a genuine person are all extremely important factors that contribute to a successful life. Throughout his season, Jordan exemplified a good, strong character that kept him going through several trying experiences.
